Dental Tuneups Every Six Months

Posted .

How bad can your teeth and gums get in six months? Well, ask any dentist and he or she will tell you a lot can happen and that a good rule of thumb is to visit the dentist every six months. Even if you take excellent care of your teeth and gums, the standard is twice a year, so says the American Dental Association. Of course, there are exceptions. Some can go longer and some people may need more constant checkups.

Thank about it, how often do you wash your car or change the oil? Yeah, that puts it into perspective, doesn’t it? Why would we treat our cars better than our beloved mouths? Our teeth have to last us a lifetime – that’s the plan, anyway. We should want to ensure our teeth and gums are healthy and our smiles bright.

Those at higher risk of developing dental problems should especially be vigilant in never going more than a few months without a trip to the dentist.

They include: tobacco and alcohol users, those with diabetes, pregnant women, and people with existing gum disease and who have weak response to bacterial infection. Plus, anyone with poor oral hygiene will more than likely need additional dental procedures.
